A study on Development and Effectiveness of Health Improvement Program using Integrative Arts Therapy

|
This study is to examine the effectiveness of Integrative Art Therapy on the improvement of cognitive function and everyday activities of the elderly in a day care center. To achieve this goal, 20 old people who are using the ‘C Day Care Center for the elderly’ were divided into two groups: 10 members into the experimental group and 10 members into the control group. The treatment program utilized in this study was configured by integrating the cognition stimulus program and the body functional training program with the application of the Integrative Arts Therapy Programs providing principles faithfully suggested by the National Health Insurance Corporation (NHIC). After conducting 12 sessions of Integrative Arts Therapy programs on the experimental group, score difference was found between before and after the experiment of cognitive function and daily living activities. The controlled group which was not treated with the program also showed difference in the score before and after the experiment. These two experimenting groups were put together to be compared to show the difference. As the result of the study, according to the statistic done with the experiment, it has been proven that significant improvement in old people's cognitive funtion and activity level have been recorded through this program. So this study is not just a cursory experiment, but is significant in terms of providing opportunity for old people who are in the long-term care facilities to recognize their own abilities, fully utilizing their abilities so to improve their self-esteem. Also, the significance of effectiveness verification through this Integrative Arts Therapy has been proven as well.
